When speaking with colleagues, I like to rip Roger Ebert for giving way too many 4-star grades. I honestly believed that since surviving multiple ailments (and a few near-death experiences), Ebert simply was thrilled to be seeing ANYTHING, and his grades reflected it. Or, he just had a crush on Jennifer Lopez.

Well, readers have accused Ebert himself of being too generous, and here, he responds.

I still think he loves Ms. Lopez, though.

I had one thought as I left a preview screening of Death Race last night: Will Natalie Martinez be sexy enough to earn the film a perfect 4-star rating from Roger Ebert? We shall see.
