I was as surprised as many viewers that a left-leaning activist like Oliver Stone presented such a level of compassion in W.
Sure, George W. Bush’s foibles and idiotic approach are there for all to see. But his level of commitment and conviction weigh a bit more in the film, according to my eyes. Make no mistake, of course, that Josh Brolin’s performance has a lot to do with that.
Stone claims to have chosen the careful path of accuracy, if you hear him right in interviews. Who wants him to be accurate?! But if the film does have its truths, did Powell really tell Cheney to fuck himself? Heh, cool.
I got a chance to talk about W. this morning on Dave FM in Atlanta.

Oliver Stone’s W
Friday the 13th
Get them while they last (which might not be for very long)
Seven members of the cast and crew from Oliver Stone’s “W” - including leading man Josh Brolin and co-star Jeffrey Wright - were arrested this weekend following a bar fight in Shreveport, La.
Officers were called to the Stray Cat, a bar in the 200 block of Travis Street, just after 2 a.m. to deal with a rowdy patron, according to a Shreveport police patrol report.
As more officers arrived, several other patrons at the bar, including Brolin and fellow actor Jeffrey Wright, tried to impede the officers, according to the report. In all, the report lists 10 officers called to the ruckus
Flattering mug shot.

Not so presidential.
I hope, for Brolin’s sake, the sheriff’s a Republican.
