Warner to Push for Heath Ledger Oscar
But that’s not the whole story…
Yes, Warner is pushing for Heath Ledger to win Best Supporting Actor… along with four other guys who appeared in The Dark Knight… see the FYC page here.

And that time is now.
Fortunately it is just a promo, not a real product. Also fortunately a “Bust a Nut” bar was not included in the package.
Those loveable scamps, will they never learn that real crooks imitate CSI, not Ocean’s Eleven!
Three men who allegedly staged an inside-job San Jose bank robbery after watching the movie “Ocean’s Eleven” will be in court today.
Brian Tirao Deguzman and Allen Tam Vu, both 25, and Armando Anaya Mendez, 22, were arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing $100,000 from the Wells Fargo branch inside the Safeway store at 3202 Story Road.
They also don’t rob Safeways.
I can’t wait to see the “before” makeup…
Actress Nicole Kidman has agreed to play the world’s first post-operation transsexual in the Hollywood movie “The Danish Girl,” industry officials say.
I love this ad that still pops up on Filmcritic.com from time to time (as it did today):
I don’t so much mind promoting the competition… but Joel Siegel died over a year ago. I expect what he “has to say about the latest movies” will be very little indeed.
The Blu-ray version of Black Christmas (the remake) can be yours for just $50.95. WTF?
But hey, that’s a discount from the list price of $67.99. A bargain!
Really, really wonderful. Really.
Gotta keep up appearances! Yeah! Keep ‘em up! No, higher! Higher! There ya go! Higher! A little higher!
Whether you love Futurama or not, this anti-piracy warning is pretty awesome.
I don’t know what’s sadder: That 2,000 people turned out for an Olsen twins book signing event (surely they can’t actually write, like, words and stuff)… or this list of demands placed on the event:
1) Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen will be with us for a limited time. They will only be signing copies of their book, Influence. They will not be speaking, reading or taking questions.
2) Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen will NOT sign any memorabilia or product other than Influence. There is a limit of one book per person, and your one book must be purchased here.
3) You will be directed to pay for your book upon entering the store and will be given a receipt for your purchase. Please keep your receipt. You will receive your book at the signing table.
4) Along with your receipt, you will be given a B&N wristband, and then directed to the event space on the 4th floor. You must have a receipt and a wristband to access the 4th floor.
5) Anyone approaching the signing table must have paid for the book and be wearing a B&N wristband. One person, one wristband, one book.
6) You will collect your signed book at the signing table. If you have paid for any additional copies, a staff member will provide you with those before you exit the space.
7) There is no photography allowed. You must put away your camera or cell phone before approaching the signing table. The authors will not pose for photos.
8) If you leave, or the authors leave, before you are able to collect a signed book, you may present your receipt to a cashier for either an unsigned book or a refund. (Refunds only issued within 14 days of receipt.)
9) There will be no extra signed copies available after the authors leave the store. They will not be able to sign for anyone who is not on line. No pre-orders.
Anne Pressly looked quite a bit like Ann Coulter and had experience as a TV news broadcaster, which is likely why Oliver Stone cast him in his movie W. to play Coulter in a small role.
Now Pressly is dead, the victim of a savage beating that left her unconscious and soon after hospitalized. Police suspect a “random attack,” but one has to marvel at the coincidence of the opening of W., the heated political climate, and the nearness of the election.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
He certainly looks the part… Keanu Reeves as the robot Klaatu in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
(And I originally thought that casting news was actually a joke…)
I just watched the original Omen on Blu-ray (not as scary as I’d remembered), then stumbled upon this set of fun facts about the film, pluse Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeist.
Creepiest tidbit:
Maybe The Omen is cursed. Much has been made of the bizarre accidents that befell members of the cast and crew. For instance: Scriptwriter and novel writer David Seltzer’s plan was struck by lightning. Gregory Peck’s plane was struck by lightning too, on a separate occasion, and he was almost killed in a plane crash - he canceled his reservation on a flight that ended up plummeting to the ground, killing everyone on board. Director Richard Donner’s hotel was bombed. The Rottweiler trainers were attacked by the dogs they were training. Eerily, the girlfriend of the special effects coordinator who rigged up the famous decapitation scene was decapitated a couple of years later. And even people barely involved were at risk: a warden where the safari park scene was filmed was killed by a lion just a day after the scene was shot.
One famous fact that I’ve heard that’s not mentioned in the piece: The lights were up so bright in order to catch the slo-mo bullet firing from the gun in the famous second-to-last scene in the church that the candles began to melt.
Porn stars crossing over into mainstream movies isn’t new. Porn stars headlining a Steven Soderbergh movie: That’s news.
“Precocious” porn star Sasha Grey is the star of Soderbergh’s upcoming The Girlfriend Experience, her third mainstream picture, according to Variety, but clearly the first of any substance.
Naturally, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree…
The low-budget drama, currently shooting in Gotham, chronicles the life of a high-price call girl, is part of Soderbergh’s six-pic deal with multimedia entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
Now one has to wonder if the porn guys will do a knockoff version… and if they do, will Grey star in that as well?
I’m still torn on this… can it be any good?
Here’s the crew on the bridge of the new old Enterprise…
Greed continues to be good, it seems:
As Wall Street continues to capture headlines due to market volatility, 20th Century Fox is moving forward with a “Wall Street” sequel.
Allan Loeb (”21″) has been tapped to pen the screenplay, which is being fast-tracked by the studio as a Michael Douglas starrer, though the actor is not formally attached.
Sheen’s Bud Fox will not appear, nor is it clear if Oliver Stone will be directing the movie.
Sorry, I just love this too much not to post it.
They gotta keep the outfits, though.
Hoping to do for V what the Sci Fi Channel did for Battlestar Galactica, ABC has given the go-ahead on a reboot of the hit 1980s franchise about alien lizards from another planet who take over Earth.
There may also be a sequel to be released as a movie…
Seth Rogan is gearing up for some fun times:
Mandate has picked up “I’m With Cancer,” a comedic autobiographical spec written by Will Reiser that Seth Rogen will produce with his writing-producing partner Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin (”The Daily Show With Jon Stewart”).
“Cancer” is Reiser’s account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease. Reiser was a producer and field producer on HBO’s “Da Ali G Show” and VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” He works with Karlin at Super Ego Industries, the HBO-based shingle that Karlin set up in 2007. Reiser also will exec produce “Cancer.”
Personally, I’m looking forward to the “You know how I know you have cancer?” routine.
